Carneddau crynion Mynydd-y-Glog

A group of ancient round cairns stands on the slopes of Mynydd-y-Glog in Hirwaun, Rhondda Cynon Taf. Dating from the late Stone Age into the Bronze Age, these low stone mounds served as part of burial and ceremonial practices. Their builders also raised chamber tombs, hilltop forts and standing stones across the same landscape. Cadw recognises the site and lists it as SAM GM521. The cairns sit beside later ring cairns, which are a different kind of monument. Together they show how burial customs changed over many centuries. Visitors walk among the weathered mounds and see the wider prehistoric landscape. Chamber tombs and hilltop forts appear nearby, while standing stones mark old routes and viewpoints. The open moorland gives wide views across the valleys below.
