About MySpots

MySpots is an open discovery and travel platform for sights across Europe. On one interactive map it gathers castles, palaces, churches, monasteries, museums, monuments, viewpoints and other places worth seeing — each with a short description, its location and its sources. The aim is to make a region’s cultural heritage findable in one place, and to turn it into your own tour within minutes.

Where the data comes from

The content of MySpots is built on open, freely licensed sources:

Wikidata – facts, coordinates and categories (CC0 licence)
OpenStreetMap – geodata (ODbL licence)
Wikimedia Commons – images, each under a free licence with author and licence credited
DB-IP – IP Geolocation by DB-IP – the visitor’s country, for the home page and the map (CC BY 4.0). The address is only looked up, never stored.

Descriptive texts are written independently from these facts; nothing is copied verbatim from copyrighted sources. The sources used are credited on each place.

How MySpots works

Every place has its own page with a description, a map and links to neighbouring sights. Region and city pages gather the places of a state or a town. Signed-in users can build their own tours with several stops, save them and return to them.

Coverage

MySpots covers more than 40 European countries with hundreds of thousands of places — from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom through Poland, Czechia, Croatia and Greece to the Nordic and Baltic countries. Coverage of individual sights keeps growing, region by region.

Data quality and editing

Places are selected by criteria you can follow: structured Wikidata classes (castle, palace, monastery, museum, waterfall, lighthouse) with coordinates. One signal of relevance is the number of Wikipedia articles about a place, so that minor or purely administrative entries do not clutter the map. Entries edited by people are never overwritten by the automatic import.

Updates

The data grows continuously and is refreshed regularly from the open sources. New countries, regions and sights are added all the time; figures such as the number of places per category are recalculated daily.
