Sgùrr Eilde Mòr

Sgùrr Eilde Mòr is a Munro in the Mamores range of the Grampian Mountains. It stands in the Highland region, six kilometres north-east of Kinlochleven. The mountain is a steep, conical peak made of scree and quartzite boulders. A layer of schist caps the summit, giving it a rugged appearance. Its height of 1,010 metres places it among Scotland’s highest peaks. Hillwalkers often choose it for its challenging routes and rewarding views. The mountain attracts climbers who follow a stalker’s path from Kinlochleven. This path leads to Coire an Lochan, a high corrie with a small lochan. From there, two ridges—south and west—offer the final ascent. Both routes involve steep, bouldery terrain that tests endurance. The south ridge is the more direct but harder option, while the west ridge provides a longer but gentler climb. At the top, walkers find wide views across Glen Nevis and the surrounding ranges. The quartzite boulders glisten in sunlight, adding to the dramatic scenery. On clear days, Ben Nevis and other Munros are visible in the distance. The descent follows the same path back to Kinlochleven. The mountain’s isolation and height make it a favourite among experienced climbers.
