Glas Bheinn

Glas Bheinn is a mountain summit in the Grampians range of the Scottish Highlands. It lies between Fort William and Loch Leven, a remote spot with wide views. A large rock stands about five metres from the summit cairn. The mountain is classified as a Marilyn, Corbett and HuMP, terms used by hillwalkers to describe height and prominence. Its height has been measured and remeasured by groups who keep records of British and Irish hills. The latest survey was carried out on 15 January 2003. The name Glas Bheinn is Scottish Gaelic, meaning ‘green mountain’, and locals still use the original form. Visitors reach the top by following paths through heather and grass. The final climb is short but steep, rewarded by a 360-degree outlook. On clear days Ben Nevis and other peaks appear to the north. The cairn at the summit marks the highest point and offers a place to rest before the descent.
