Pfrondhorn

The Pfrondhorn stands in the Bregenzerwald range in Vorarlberg, the first summit of the Walserkamm that stretches east–west toward Feldkirch. It rises 1 949 m above sea level on the border of Blons and Laterns, with the Seraspitz 500 m west and the Furkajoch 850 m east. The mountain has no summit cross, only a survey marker, and its slopes carry dense grass, heather, pine and a few hardy shrubs. The peak is worth the climb for its clear air and wide views across the Rhine valley and the Lechtal Alps. Walkers leave from the Furkajoch snack bar and follow the ridge over the Serajöchle in about forty minutes. A longer route from the Serajöchle via the Seraspitz adds fifteen minutes but rewards with gentler gradients and open meadows. On the summit ridge the grass gives way to scattered rocks and a narrow path that demands sure footing. North-facing springs feed the Ladritschbach, while south-west the Oberalp alpine hut lies 650 m below. The mountain is only suitable for those with proper boots and experience; wet rock increases the risk of slipping.
