Löffelspitze

The Löffelspitze stands at the southern edge of the Bregenzerwald range in Vorarlberg, where the Walserkamm ridge runs east–west toward Feldkirch. It is a sharply defined summit with grass slopes and scattered patches of heather, erica and fir. About 200 metres below on the north-west side the Frutz stream rises from the mountainside. The mountain demands sure footing and a head for heights, as well as proper mountain boots. The gentlest route climbs from Blons through Oberblons and the Sentum Alp, taking roughly three and a half hours and 800 metres of ascent. An alternative starts at St. Gerold, passes the Plankenberg, Salum Maisäß and several alpine huts, and reaches the summit in four to five hours with about 1,000 metres of climbing. A shorter but more exposed option leaves from the Furkajoch and follows the ridge, where drop-offs lie on both sides and scrambling over rock is sometimes needed. On the summit a large metal cross marks the highest point. The surrounding Walserkamm offers views over the Rhine valley and the Lechtal Alps. Nearby peaks include the Mutabellaspitze to the south-west, the Seraspitz and Pfrondhorn to the north-east, and the Furkajoch and Serajöchle passes at similar distances. Alpine meadows and high pastures lie all around, tended by local herds in summer.
