Furkajoch

Furkajoch is a high mountain pass rising to 1,761 metres in the Vorarlberg Alps. It links the Bregenzer Ach valley near Damüls to the Frutz valley near Laterns. The pass sits between steep slopes and open meadows, with views across alpine ridges. Its winding road is known for sharp bends and long stretches of clear tarmac. In winter the route is closed to all traffic because of snow and ice. Motorcycle riders from across Europe travel here for the thrilling ride. The climb rewards them with sweeping views of the Rhine valley and the Allgäu Alps. The pass also offers a quiet escape from lower valleys, where the air feels cooler and the light clearer. On clear days the panorama stretches more than 100 kilometres in every direction. Visitors find a small parking area near the summit with space for a few cars. From there a short path leads to a viewpoint over Damüls and the Bregenzer Wald. The surrounding meadows are dotted with gentians and alpine flowers in summer. In autumn the larches turn golden against the dark spruce. The pass remains a favourite spot for photographers and riders alike.
