Cnoc Coinnich

Cnoc Còinnich is a Corbett hill in Ardgoil, Argyll and Bute, part of the Arrochar Alps. It stands at 763.5 metres, making it one of the lowest Corbetts after a resurvey by the Scottish Mountaineering Club in 2016. The hill was once classed as a Graham but gained Corbett status when its height was adjusted by one metre. Its Gaelic name means ‘Mossy Hill’, reflecting the vegetation on its slopes. The Ordnance Survey now lists it as 764 metres on its maps. It lies near Lochgoilhead and Ardgartan, close to the Cowal Way long-distance path. The hill is often climbed together with The Brack, another nearby Corbett. A bealach, or col, separates the two peaks, offering a natural route between them. Walkers usually start from Lochgoilhead or Ardgartan, both accessible from the A83 road. The final ascent ends at a small cairn on the summit at grid reference NN233007. The views from the top stretch over Loch Long and the surrounding Arrochar Alps. Its modest height makes it a manageable climb for most hillwalkers. The surrounding area is rich in walking routes, including the Cowal Way, which passes nearby. The landscape features steep slopes and rocky outcrops typical of the Arrochar Alps. The mossy vegetation gives the hill its name and adds to its character. The nearby village of Lochgoilhead provides a base for those exploring the region. Ardgartan offers another starting point, with access to both Cnoc Còinnich and The Brack. The hill’s modest height and easy access make it a popular choice for local walkers.
