Ben Donich

Ben Donich is a mountain in the Arrochar Alps, close to Loch Goil in Argyll and Bute. It stands as part of the Ardgoil range, with its sister peak The Brack nearby. The nearest village is Lochgoilhead, where walkers often begin their ascent. At 846.5 metres, it is the highest point on the Ardgoil peninsula. The mountain has a square-pyramid shape, with four ridges meeting at the summit. Ben Donich is a Corbett, a classification for British mountains between 2,500 and 3,000 feet. Its slopes are mostly grassy, though steeper sections feature rocky outcrops. Four ridges provide access, but lower slopes are often blocked by forestry plantations. The south-east ridge is the most popular, linking Ben Donich to The Brack via Bealach Dubh-lic. Another ridge overlooks Glen Croe and the A83 road’s "Rest and be Thankful" summit. The summit holds an Ordnance Survey trig point at grid reference NN218043. From the top, views stretch over Loch Goil and the surrounding glens. The wooded glen below contains the Donich Water river. The moderate terrain makes it a manageable climb for experienced walkers. Lochgoilhead’s setting adds to the mountain’s appeal, offering a quiet start and finish to the hike.
