The Brack

The Brack is a mountain in the Arrochar Alps, standing on the south side of Glen Croe near Loch Goil in Argyll and Bute. It has two summits: the lower Cruach Fhiarach is visible from Loch Long, while the main peak is seen from Glen Croe and Loch Goil. The mountain lies in the Ardgoil range, a peninsula bounded by Loch Goil to the west and Loch Long to the east. It is connected by cols to Ben Donich and Cnoc Còinnich, and is surrounded by higher peaks. The Loch Lomond and Cowal Way passes to the south, crossing the bealach between The Brack and Cnoc Còinnich. Climbers value The Brack for its mountaineering routes, both in summer and winter. The Inglis Clark Arête stands out on the east skyline when viewed from Glen Croe. The north-facing cliff face features deep gullies such as Great Central Gully and Elephant Gully. A climb often starts from Glen Croe, sometimes combined with Ben Donich. A full traverse links the direct ascent from Glen Croe with a descent via the south-west ridge to Coilessan Glen. The mountain can also be reached from Lochgoilhead. Views from the summit take in Glen Croe, Loch Goil and the surrounding peaks of the Arrochar Alps.
