Falls of Moness

The Falls of Moness is a waterfall in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It sits 391 metres above sea level in gently rolling countryside. The nearest town, Pitlochry, lies 13.6 kilometres to the north-east. The land around the falls is covered mainly by mixed woodland. The setting is quiet, with no large settlements nearby. The waterfall is part of the Moness Water system that feeds into the River Tummel. Its flow varies with the seasons, strongest after heavy rain or snowmelt. The path to the viewing points is short but uneven, with some steep sections. Visitors can reach the main cascade in under ten minutes from the car park. The sound of falling water grows louder as you approach. At the site there are several viewpoints along a rough stone path. The main fall drops about six metres into a deep pool below. Smaller cascades continue downstream through the wooded gorge. The area is shaded by birch, oak and pine, giving it a cool, green atmosphere. The falls are most impressive in spring when meltwater swells the stream.
