Loch Derculich

Loch Derculich is a freshwater loch in the central Highlands of Scotland, within Perth and Kinross. It lies three miles south of Loch Tummel, surrounded by rolling hills and heather moorland. The water is calm and clear, reflecting the sky and the slopes around it. A gully cuts through the land near the southern shore, adding texture to the landscape. The loch sits in a quiet valley, far from main roads and towns. Ancient remains show people once lived and worked here. From the air, two groups of shieling huts appear on either side of the gully. These small, rough shelters were used in summer by herders who moved livestock to higher ground. A trackway leads southwest from the huts, worn by feet and hooves over centuries. Nearby, a possible hut-circle sits beside a newer track to the northeast, hinting at long use of the land. Visitors find a peaceful spot with few signs of modern life. The loch’s edge offers flat grassy areas for resting or picnicking. The hills around provide gentle walks with wide views over water and moor. The remains of the huts and tracks are subtle but visible, adding a sense of history without crowds. The air is quiet, broken only by wind or birdsong, making it a place to pause and look closely at the past.
