Royal Albert

Royal Albert station stands on an elevated section of the Docklands Light Railway in Beckton, east London. It serves the western end of the Royal Albert Dock’s north quay and offers a view of London City Airport. The station lies between Prince Regent and Beckton Park on the Beckton branch, in London fare zone 3. It opened in 1994, replacing an earlier station that closed in 1940. Metal catwalks were added later but remain too narrow for regular use. The station handles twelve trains per hour off-peak to Canning Town and Beckton, rising to sixteen at peak times. During disruptions it can become a temporary terminus with a shuttle to Beckton. A crossover west of the station makes this possible. The area around it includes the London Regatta Centre and Royal Docks Business Park, home to Newham Council offices. London Buses routes 129 and 376 call at the stop. Visitors find a simple elevated platform with clear views across the dock and towards the airport. The route to nearby homes crosses a busy road at ground level, as the nearest footbridge is some distance away. Signs label the station for West Beckton, reflecting its local catchment. Despite its distance from houses, patronage remains steady, especially during office hours. The surroundings combine industrial docks with newer business buildings and waterfront paths.
