Prince Regent
Prince Regent station stands in Custom House, Newham, on the eastern edge of London. It is a stop on the Docklands Light Railway’s Beckton branch, between Custom House and Royal Albert stations. The station gives access to the ExCeL Exhibition Centre and ICC London, and its signage carries the subtitle ‘for ExCeL East’. A small bus station sits next to the DLR entrance, with routes to Plaistow and London City Airport. During large exhibitions at ExCeL, an extra DLR shuttle runs between Canning Town and Prince Regent to ease crowds. The station takes its name from Prince Regent Lane, a road built in 1811 to honour the future George IV. The lane once led to a ferry that crossed the Thames between Silvertown and Charlton. The DLR platforms lie beside a crossover where trains reverse east of the station, close to Royal Albert. Off-peak trains run every five minutes to Canning Town and Beckton, with extra services at peak times. London buses 241, 474, 300, 304, 325, 473, 678 and the night route N551 serve the stop. Visitors find a straightforward station with clear signs for ExCeL and the Excel Centre. The bus station outside offers quick links to Plaistow and the airport. Trains arrive and depart frequently, and the crossover east of the platform shows the railway’s compact layout. The surrounding area is mostly flat docklands land, with the A13 nearby. The station’s name recalls a lane and ferry from the early 19th century.
