London City Airport

London City Airport DLR station stands on an elevated track beside the airport in Silvertown, west of the terminal. It opened in December 2005 when the King George V branch extended the Docklands Light Railway from Canning Town. Trains run every few minutes to Bank in the City, Stratford International and Woolwich Arsenal, with extra departures at peak times. The station is in London fare zone 3 and forms part of the London Borough of Newham. The design keeps passengers dry with lifts, escalators and a fully enclosed waiting room on the central platform. A staffed ticket office is unusual for the DLR and helps airport travellers. A crossover track west of the station lets trains reverse quickly when services are disrupted. Before the station was built, a century-old primary school occupied the site and was relocated nearby. Two entrances lead to the platforms, and a covered walkway links directly to the airport concourse. Local buses 129, 473 and 474 stop outside, making the station easy to reach. The station’s enclosed layout and frequent trains make it a practical gateway for visitors heading into East London.
