Carnedd gron Pant Sychbant

Carnedd gron Pant Sychbant is a round cairn near Hirwaun in Rhondda Cynon Taf. It dates from the late Stone Age and the start of the Bronze Age. The site sits on a gentle slope above the valley of the Afon Sychbant. Its purpose was likely tied to burial rituals and religious ceremonies. Unlike ring cairns, round cairns have a different shape and function. The cairn has been recognised by Cadw, the historic environment service of Wales. It carries the unique SAM reference number BR166. The same builders also created chambered tombs, burial mounds, stone circles, hillforts and standing stones. These structures show how communities organised themselves across the landscape. Visitors find a simple grassy mound with a few exposed stones. The view opens across the valley towards the Brecon Beacons. The site is quiet, with no modern distractions. It offers a sense of the distant past without crowds or barriers. The surrounding moorland adds to the sense of isolation and history.
