Cultural heritage D-2-7540-0004 in Bodenkirchen

A medieval castle once stood on a low mound beside the Bina stream near Aich in Bodenkirchen, Lower Bavaria. The site, known as a Burgstall or Turmhügel, is marked by a flattened plateau and a broad surrounding ditch. A modern house now occupies the top, while the eastern side slopes down to the stream. The castle belonged to several noble families over centuries, including the Hochholdings and Leoprechtingers. Michael Wening’s 17th-century description notes a wooden manor surrounded by a pond. Records show the seat passed through marriages and inheritances, from Wolfgang von Hochholding in 1476 to Johann Rudolph von Leoprechting in 1684. By 1782 the wooden structure had been demolished, leaving only earthworks and later buildings. Visitors today see a quiet field with subtle earthworks and a modern house on the mound. The remains of the ditch and the slight rise of the Turmhügel are still visible. The site lies about 700 metres north-east of St Ulrich’s church in Aich. The surrounding landscape of gentle hills and the Bina valley adds to the peaceful setting.
