Beinn Dearg

Beinn Dearg rises in the Fannaichs, a range of rolling hills in the northwest Highlands. The mountain stands at 686 metres and is classed as a Graham Top of Corbett and a HuMP. Measuring and verifying such lists is done by several hill-walking societies across Britain and Ireland. Their findings are collected on the Database of British and Irish Hills website. The peak is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the area. It offers long views over the surrounding glens and lochs on clear days. The slopes are gentle enough for experienced walkers to reach the summit in a day. The route starts from the small car park near Loch a’ Bhathaich. At the top a trig point marks the highest point. The view takes in the Fannaichs to the south and the sea loch to the west. On the eastern side the land drops into a series of peat bogs and small streams. The area is quiet and few people climb outside the summer months.
