Heron Quays

Heron Quays station stands on the Isle of Dogs in East London, part of the Docklands Light Railway’s Bank to Lewisham line. It sits inside a high-rise office tower, an unusual arrangement for a metro stop. The station links the southern edge of Canary Whards’ business district with the Jubilee Place shopping centre below. Trains run every few minutes, making it a busy hub even outside rush hours. Two large banks once funded its rebuild, showing how finance shaped the area. The station’s design comes from Alsop Architects, chosen for its long platforms that fit three-unit trains. Rebuilt between 2001 and 2002, it replaced an older open-air stop. Trains now arrive up to twenty-two times an hour at peak times, far more than the usual twelve. Some services run to Stratford instead of Bank during busy periods. Buses also stop here, linking the station to night routes across London. Visitors find a clean, modern platform inside a glass-fronted tower. The Jubilee Place shopping centre sits directly beneath, offering cafes and shops. Outside, the Isle of Dogs skyline shows Canary Wharf’s towers rising nearby. The station’s location makes it easy to reach offices and retail spaces without crossing busy roads. Its design keeps crowds moving smoothly, even when trains arrive every few minutes.
