Forum am Schlosspark

The Forum am Schlosspark stands in Ludwigsburg’s town centre, directly south of the Residenzschloss and its gardens. Designed by architect Ulrich Kohlleppel, the building opened in 1988 after four years of construction. It was created mainly to host the Schlossfestspiele but now hosts concerts, plays, conferences and other events. The theatre contains two large halls: a main auditorium with about 1,400 seats for concerts and stage performances, and the Bürgersaal, which can be rearranged to hold more than 1,400 people. Smaller multi-purpose rooms and an in-house restaurant complete the interior. The post-modern exterior echoes the Residenzschloss with its pale yellow-grey facade and sweeping curves that open the building towards the park. A low stone fountain in front of the theatre imitates natural rock forms and is itself protected. The building was awarded Denkmalschutz in 2024 for its excellent state of preservation and its significance as a representative cultural project of the 1980s. Landeskonservator Martin Hahn noted its combination of practical use and artistic ambition as an exemplary modern monument.
