Poplar DLR station

Poplar DLR station stands in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, where three of the six Docklands Light Railway lines meet. It is a cross-platform interchange, making it one of the busiest stations on the network. The station links Stratford with Canary Wharf, Bank with Woolwich Arsenal, and Tower Gateway with Beckton. Nearby is Canary Wharf station on the Elizabeth line, offering further connections. The area around Poplar has seen several railway stations over the years, though none shared the current site. The station opened in 1987 with four platforms and three tracks, later expanded to handle two-car trains. In 1994, it became the western end of the new Beckton branch, and by 2005 it connected to Bank and Woolwich Arsenal. A 2018 trial called Adopt a Station turned part of the station into a space for community events, classes, and art displays. This aimed to make journeys through the station more pleasant. From Poplar, trains run east to Beckton and Woolwich Arsenal, north to Stratford, south to the Isle of Dogs and Lewisham, and west to Bank and Tower Gateway. During off-peak hours, twelve trains per hour head to Stratford and Canary Wharf, while six serve the other directions. London buses 15, 115, D6 and night routes N15 and N551 stop nearby. The station’s tight curves near the depot include the sharpest on the network.
