Leibniger Tor

The Leibniger Tor stands at 2,515 metres in the Schobergruppe range of East Tirol, marking the southern edge of the Hochschober-Westkamm. It overlooks two valleys: the Iseltal to the southwest and the Leibnitztal to the south. The slopes on these sides are covered by the Leibniger Wald and Leibnitzwald. The summit connects via a ridge to the Obere Tor at 2,756 metres and a point at 2,881 metres between the Riegelkopf and the Kreuzspitze. The nearest village is Oberleibnig in the municipality of St. Johann im Walde. The peak is recognised as the gateway to the remote upper Leibnitztal valley. It forms part of the long southern ridge of the Hochschober-Westkamm, which stretches deep into the Schobergruppe. The area is known for its steep rock faces and high alpine meadows above the tree line. The ridge walk offers views across the Schober group and down into the Isel and Leibnitz valleys. The forests below provide shelter and contrast to the open summits. Visitors reach the Leibniger Tor by following paths through the Leibniger Wald and across alpine pastures. The final climb involves a rocky ridge with some scrambling near the top. From the summit there are wide views of the Schobergruppe’s highest peaks and the deep valleys below. The route is used by hikers and mountaineers seeking a quieter alternative to more crowded peaks. The surrounding area remains wild and little visited, preserving its alpine character.
