Merton Park

Merton Park tram stop stands on a short stretch of double track in the London Borough of Merton. It occupies part of the old railway station site that once served passenger trains on the West Croydon to Wimbledon Line until 1997 and the Merton Abbey Branch until 1929. The original station building, about 200 metres south, has become a private house. The stop has two side platforms raised 315 millimetres above rail level to allow level boarding. Each platform has information displays, help points, lighting, seating, shelters and CCTV cameras. Access to the stop comes from Kingston Road at the site of the former level crossing and signal box. A footpath also links it to the nearby Nursery Road playing fields nature reserve. Another footpath crosses a second level crossing from Dorset Road. London Buses routes 152, 163 and 164 stop close by. Passengers can change between trams and buses within an hour without extra charge under Transport for London’s Hopper fare. Trams run every ten minutes off-peak in each direction between Beckenham Junction and Wimbledon. The same frequency applies between Elmers End and Wimbledon. Low-floor trams of the Bombardier CR4000 and Stadler Variobahn models serve the route. The stop also provides cycle parking for those arriving by bicycle.
