Dundonald Road

Dundonald Road tram stop sits on the edge of Wimbledon town centre in the London Borough of Merton. It stands on the old Wimbledon–West Croydon railway line, which closed in May 1997. Tramlink reopened the line and built a new station here, replacing the level crossing with traffic lights. Transport for London took ownership in June 2008. Until December 2019 it was one of fifteen request stops, but now every tram calls. The stop has two side platforms on a double-track section off the main road. Each platform rises 315 mm above the rails to allow level boarding. Passenger information displays, help points, lighting, seating and shelters are provided, along with CCTV cameras. Ramps at both ends give step-free access, and tactile paving helps visually impaired passengers. Cycle parking is also available for those arriving by bike. Dundonald Road tram stop opens directly onto the pavement where the old signal box once stood. It is a short walk from Dundonald Park and Dundonald Primary School. Trams run every ten minutes off-peak in each direction, linking Wimbledon with Beckenham Junction and Elmers End. Low-floor trams of the Bombardier CR4000 and Stadler Variobahn types serve the stop.
