ExCeL Street Circuit

The ExCeL Street Circuit is a temporary race track set within London’s Docklands. It winds partly through the Exhibition Centre London and around its exhibition halls, creating a mix of indoor and outdoor sections. The indoor parts run on the first floor of the hall, while the outdoor parts face changing light, surfaces and weather. The track uses a special epoxy-polymer surface to protect the concrete floor inside the building. Formula E races have been held here since 2021, after earlier plans for Battersea Park were dropped. The first event was postponed by COVID-19 and later shortened to 2.34 kilometres with a reduced crowd of 2,700 inside. Since then the layout has been adjusted each year, with events in July 2022, 2023 and 2024, and another planned for July 2025. The organisers extended their contract for one more year before moving the race to Brands Hatch in 2027. Visitors see a fast, technical circuit that rises and falls over steep ramps between street level and the indoor track. The indoor straights and tight corners contrast with the outdoor bends, giving drivers a varied challenge. Temporary grandstands and barriers appear for race weekend, then vanish again. Nearby stands the London City Airport, and the Docklands skyline frames the scene.
