Bensberg

The Bensberg is a forested hill in the Langenberge range, part of the larger Habichtswälder Bergland in northern Hesse. It stands near the villages of Ermetheis, Besse and Großenritte, its summit just west of the boundary between Gudensberg and Edermünde. The hill reaches 464.8 metres and is surrounded by beech and oak woods that stretch across the main ridge.
The Bensberg marks the southern end of the Langenberge’s main crest, with the Laufskopf and Bilstein nearby. A local hiking trail follows the ridge from Ermetheis to Großenritte, passing a small car park where the Langenbergrennen once finished. Two streams rise on its slopes: the Elsterbach flows southwest to the Ems, while the Pilgerbach runs east to the Eder.
Visitors walk shaded forest paths that cross the ridge and offer views over the surrounding countryside. The slopes drop away to farmland in the Fritzlarer Börde to the southwest and the flatlands of the Kasseler Becken to the east. From the summit area, the wooded crest continues north towards the higher Laufskopf, giving a sense of quiet isolation in the heart of the Naturpark Habichtswald.
