Beddington Lane

Beddington Lane tram stop stands on the edge of the London Borough of Sutton. It replaced a railway station that closed in 1997 when the line was rebuilt for Tramlink. The stop sits beside the main road called Beddington Lane and is reached by a footpath on the west and south sides. A bridge over the main line at Mitcham Junction still carries single-track trams, though the section next to the stop was doubled in 2014. It is one of only two Tramlink stops in the borough, the other being Therapia Lane. The service runs every ten minutes off-peak in each direction. Six trams an hour travel between Beckenham Junction and Wimbledon, and another six run between Elmers End and Wimbledon. Low-floor trams by Bombardier and Stadler serve the route, making boarding easy. London Buses routes 463 and 633 call at the stop, and passengers may change between tram and bus free within an hour under Transport for London’s Hopper Fare. Visitors find a simple platform beside the tracks with clear signs and seating. The area around the stop is mostly light industry and open land, giving views across flat meadows. A cycle path runs close by, linking to wider routes across Sutton. The stop is quiet compared with central London termini, yet it connects quickly to Wimbledon and beyond.
