Cranmer Green

Cranmer Green is a 3.2-hectare local nature reserve in Mitcham, within the London Borough of Merton. It sits on a triangular plot bordered by Cranmer Road, King George VI Avenue and a railway line. The land is owned and managed by Merton Council. Locally it is also called Cranmer Piece. The site takes its name from the Cranmer family, who lived in the area between 1761 and 1843. The reserve includes a pond that likely dates to the late eighteenth century. It also contains grassland and woodland habitats. These features support a variety of wildlife. The pond and surrounding vegetation create a quiet green space in an urban setting. The reserve is recognised as a Site of Local Importance for Nature Conservation. Visitors find a small pond near the centre of the triangle. Paths wind through grassland and woodland, offering short walks. Benches provide places to sit and watch birds or enjoy the surroundings. The reserve remains open throughout the year. Its modest size makes it easy to explore in a single visit.
