Masjid As-Salafi

The As-Salafi Mosque stands in Small Heath, a district of Birmingham in England’s West Midlands. It occupies a single building with Salafi Publications, a registered charity that publishes Islamic materials. The mosque sits near the corner of Muntz and Wright Streets, just behind the busy Coventry Road. Founded in 2002, it serves the local Muslim community with daily activities and weekly prayers. The building also hosts a primary school and an evening Qur’an memorisation school. More than a thousand worshippers gather there every Friday for the ‘jum’ah’ prayers. Weekly lessons take place each day, drawing people from across Birmingham. Seasonal conferences can bring around three thousand attendees from the UK and Europe. Dawud Burbank, once a senior lecturer at the mosque, contributed to its teaching work. Among Birmingham’s 163 mosques, it is one of six in the Small Heath Park area. Inside, the mosque provides space for prayer, study and learning. The primary school teaches younger children during the day. In the evenings, older students attend Qur’an memorisation classes. The building’s shared entrance with Salafi Publications offers easy access to Islamic books and resources. Outside, Small Heath’s streets lead to local shops and homes, linking the mosque to the wider neighbourhood.
