The club is famous for hosting the Wimbledon Championships, the oldest tennis tournament in the world. Unlike other major events, Wimbledon does not name its main courts after players but uses numbers instead. The court has a long history tied to the tournament’s past. The original No. 2 Court earned the nickname ‘Graveyard of Champions’ because many top players lost surprising defeats there. Names like Andre Agassi, Serena Williams, and Pete Sampras all fell to lesser-known opponents on this court. In 2009, the old court was renamed No. 3 and later demolished to make way for new facilities. A rebuilt No. 2 Court opened the same year with space for 4,000 spectators. Today’s No. 2 Court is a modern venue where major matches take place during Wimbledon. Its location near the club’s entrance makes it one of the first courts visitors see. The court’s design keeps the tradition of the tournament alive while adding contemporary features. Players and fans alike recognise it as a key part of the championship’s atmosphere.
