No. 3 Court

No. 3 Court stands on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London. It is one of the numbered show courts at Wimbledon, the only Grand Slam event that avoids naming main courts after players. The club rebuilt the court in the early 2010s, turning the old No. 2 Court into the new No. 3 Court. Work began after the 2009 Championships and finished in time for the 2011 event. With space for 2,000 spectators, it is the fourth largest court on the site. The court’s history reflects Wimbledon’s steady modernisation. The original No. 3 Court was renamed Court 4 in 2009 and later demolished to make room for new seating and an enlarged Court 4. The rebuild of No. 3 Court followed the construction of the new No. 2 Court, keeping the numbered sequence intact. Its completion allowed Wimbledon to host more matches on site without losing the club’s traditional layout. Visitors find a compact but well-equipped arena surrounded by temporary seating. The court sits close to the main concourse, making it easy to reach between matches. Its modest size gives it an intimate feel compared with the larger show courts. The surrounding lawns and pathways remain part of the club’s green setting, linking it to the wider Wimbledon grounds.
