Husen Castle

Burg Husen stands on a small rise in the Dortmund district of Syburg. The medieval tower house was built in the 13th century and rebuilt in the 17th. It is one of the few surviving tower houses in the region and remains a protected monument. The castle sits within a 7,000-square-metre estate of pastures and woodland. The land forms a triangle between Dortmund, Schwerte and Hagen. The Westphalia branch of the Verband Christlicher Pfadfinderinnen und Pfadfinder took over the castle in 1984. Since then it has served as a youth holiday home and campsite. Groups use the tower house and surrounding grounds for organised activities. The estate’s open spaces and quiet setting make it a practical base for exploration. Visitors find a simple stone tower with small windows and a steep staircase inside. The surrounding fields and trees offer short walks and views across the Ruhr valley. The campsite provides basic facilities for groups staying overnight. The castle’s modest scale keeps the atmosphere informal and uncluttered.
