Sgùrr Mhic Bharraich

Sgùrr Mhic Bharraich stands on the path from Glen Shiel to Loch Hourn and Loch Quoich in the Scottish Highlands. It is a mountain top marked by a small cairn at its summit. The mountain is listed as a Marilyn, a Corbett and a HuMP, terms used by hill-walking groups to classify peaks by height and prominence. Several organisations maintain and update these lists on the Database of British and Irish Hills. The height of the mountain was last remeasured on 28 October 2001. The route to the summit passes through some of the wildest and most remote scenery in the Highlands. Glen Shiel itself is a long, straight valley flanked by steep slopes and rocky ridges. The lochs at either end add reflections of the surrounding peaks on calm days. Walkers often combine the ascent with visits to nearby Munros or other Corbetts. At the top, the view stretches across Knoydart, Kintail and the islands of the Inner Sound. The cairn offers a place to rest and take in the vast landscape. The ridge lines and corries below show the work of ancient glaciers. On clear days the eye can follow the line of the Great Glen far to the north.
