Llainwen Round Cairns

Llainwen Round Cairn is a round burial mound in Ceredigion, Wales. It stands on a gentle slope near Llangynfelyn, surrounded by open moorland. The site dates from the late Stone Age into the early Bronze Age. Its builders used local stones to create a low, circular heap. Such cairns often marked places of religious ceremony linked to burial rites. Cadw recognises it as an ancient monument with the number CD142. The builders also raised chambered tombs, standing stones and hilltop forts nearby. These remains show how the same people shaped the landscape. Ring cairns and burial chambers appear within a few kilometres. The stones were placed without mortar, relying on careful stacking. This technique has kept the mound largely intact for thousands of years. Visitors find a quiet grassy mound set against a wide horizon. The surrounding fields stretch towards the sea on clear days. No fences or barriers mark the site, letting the land speak for itself. A footpath leads close to the cairn from the nearest lane. The view includes distant hills and the remains of older settlements. The place feels remote, yet it connects to a long human story.
