Stebonheath Park

Stebonheath Park is a sports ground in Llanelli, West Wales. It has a football pitch at its centre with a 400-metre running track around it. The stadium is owned by Llanelli Town Council and has been used for football since 1920. It also served as a home ground for Llanelli Amateur Athletic Club and once hosted rugby league internationals. A narrow track with only four lanes on each straight encircles the pitch. The ground has witnessed historic sporting moments. In 1938 Wales won the European Championship there by beating England 17–9. The stadium hosted a 1935 rugby league match that drew over 25,000 spectators. In 2006 it staged an under-21 international between Wales and Northern Ireland. The venue has also held Welsh Cup finals and Rugby League World Cup qualifiers. Local junior football finals are regularly played on the pitch. Visitors find a compact stadium with a main seated stand and an open seated stand added in 2008. The athletics track remains narrow but functional. A function room and social club sit beside the ground. The surrounding area includes training facilities for Llanelli AAC. The stadium’s scale and facilities reflect its role as a community sports hub.
