Beinn an Eoin

Beinn an Eoin is a mountain peak in the Highlands of Scotland. It stands on the route between Loch Torridon and Loch Maree, rising 855 metres above sea level. A small cairn marks the summit, where walkers pause to take in the view. The mountain belongs to a group called the Corbetts, hills between 2,500 and 3,000 feet high. It is also listed as a Marilyn, a hill with a drop of at least 150 metres on all sides, and as a HuMP, a hill with a drop of at least 100 metres. The peak attracts hill-walkers who enjoy the challenge of reaching its top. Organisations such as the Database of British and Irish Hills keep records of hills like Beinn an Eoin. They measure, check and collect data on these summits to help walkers plan their routes. The last survey of the mountain’s height was carried out in October 2001. From the summit, visitors look out over the surrounding lochs and moorland. The route from Loch Torridon to Loch Maree passes through wild landscapes of heather and rock. On clear days, the peaks of nearby mountains add to the view. The cairn at the top offers a place to rest before the descent.
