Mullach an Rathain

Mullach an Rathain stands at the western end of the Liathach massif in the Torridon Hills of the Northwest Highlands. The mountain rises to 1023 metres and forms one of the two eastern Munros on this ridge. Its steep southern face shows the horizontal bands of Torridon sandstone that give the Torridon Hills their dramatic profile. The mountain is recognised as a Marilyn because of its relative height and prominence. From the north it presents three large corries, each bounded by steep cliffs and narrow ridges. The Meall Dearg ridge on its northern side encloses Coire na Caime, where a small lochan lies in a hollow below the cliffs. Walkers who reach the summit find wide views across Glen Torridon and out to the islands of the Inner Hebrides. The narrow crest known as Am Fasarinen links Mullach an Rathain to the higher Spidean a’ Choire Lèith, offering a challenging ridge traverse for experienced hillgoers. The route from Torridon follows paths that climb steadily through heather and over rocky slabs to the summit plateau.
