Hyson Green Methodist Free Church

Hyson Green Methodist Free Church stands at the corner of Noel Street and Gregory Boulevard in the Hyson Green district of Nottingham. The building was designed by Frederick W Dixon and opened after its foundation stones were laid on 21 October 1895. Its front combines Ruabon Terracotta blocks with Darley Dale stone dressings. The church replaced a smaller chapel on Lindsay Street that the congregation had outgrown. John Lewin of Netherfield acted as the general contractor for the new structure. The church later became Hyson Green Girls’ Club before it was converted into Hyson Green Community Centre. Its architecture shows the influence of late-19th-century Nonconformist design in Nottingham. The terracotta and stone frontage remains a local landmark at the busy junction. The building’s conversion preserved many original features while adapting the interior for community use. Inside, visitors find a large hall used for events and meetings. The former worship space retains its high ceilings and tall windows. Community activities include youth clubs, adult education and local support services. The centre sits among terraced houses and small shops in Hyson Green. Its location makes it a familiar meeting place for residents.
