Blaen Camddwr round cairn

A round cairn from the late Stone Age and early Bronze Age stands in the uplands above the river Camddwr. It sits on a gentle slope in Tregaron community, Ceredigion, where the land rises toward the Cambrian Mountains. The site is marked on maps at grid reference SN751589, a quiet spot away from roads and farms. Round cairns like this were built as burial mounds, often used in ceremonies connected with the dead. Cadw has listed it as an ancient monument under the number CD244. The cairn is small but clearly defined, with a low circular bank of stones. Its purpose was probably religious or ritual rather than domestic. It differs from ring cairns, which have an open centre and a different shape. Archaeologists recognise these mounds as part of a wider pattern across upland Wales. Visitors reach the site by following farm tracks and then a short path uphill. The view opens over rolling moorland and the valley of the Camddwr. The air is open and the only sounds are wind and birds. The cairn itself is unexcavated, so its full story remains in the ground.
