Dwy garnedd gron Gwar-castell

Two round cairns stand on a low ridge above the river Teifi in Tregaron, Ceredigion. They date from the end of the Stone Age and the start of the Bronze Age. Their purpose was probably part of burial rites and religious ceremonies. Cadw recognises the site and lists it as SAM CD215. The smaller mound is about ten metres across and the larger one about twelve. Both have been disturbed by later digging, yet their original shapes remain clear. They sit on a gentle slope with open moorland stretching away in every direction. Visitors reach the cairns along a farm track that leads from Tregaron. The ground is firm underfoot and the views take in the wide Teifi valley. Stone walls and hedges divide the surrounding fields, giving a sense of quiet isolation. The site is quiet enough for the wind and birdsong to be the only sounds.
