Annandale distillery

Annandale distillery stands beside the River Annan in Annan, a town in Dumfries and Galloway. The distillery dates from 1836 and was later owned by Johnnie Walker. It closed in 1924 but remained well preserved. In 2007 David Thomson and Teresa Church bought the site. Restoration began with a £10.5 million investment and a £150,000 grant. The distillery is known for its single malt Scotch whisky. The first cask of unpeated whisky sold for £1 million. Ex-Scotland rugby player Doddie Weir filled the first peated cask. The owners released the first bottlings in 2018 under the names Man O’ Words and Man O’ Sword. A blended whisky called Outlaw King was released in 2019 to mark the film of the same name. Visitors find a working distillery with a visitor centre opened in 2014. They can see casks being filled and later broached. The Founders’ Selection range offers rare single cask bottlings. The distillery also sells casks for private ownership. Nearby, the Globe Inn in Dumfries displays Burns artefacts and is endorsed by the Robert Burns World Federation.
