Tauernhaus Wisenegg

The Tauernhaus Wisenegg stands beside the road over the Radstädter Tauern Pass in Obertauern, Salzburg. Built in 1573, the two-storey alpine building has a shingle-covered hip roof and a carved inscription on its front wall. A sundial dated 1562–1905 is also set into the façade. The house survived a fire in 1919 and is now protected as a historic monument. Its sturdy timber construction and steep roof reflect centuries of alpine travel and shelter. The inscription 1573 marks the year of its original construction. Inside, visitors find simple guest rooms and a rustic dining space warmed by a large stove. The building’s thick walls and small windows keep the interior cool in summer. Outside, the high pass road offers sweeping views of surrounding peaks.
