Northern Taurach

The Northern Taurach is a river in Salzburg, Austria. It rises near the Radstädter Tauern Pass along with the Southern Taurach, but flows in the opposite direction. The two rivers form valleys called Taurachtal, linking the Enns valley to the Mur valley. The Northern Taurach is the shorter of the two, measuring about 20 kilometres long. Despite its length, it drops over 900 metres from source to mouth. The river is a right-hand tributary of the Enns near Radstadt. Its drainage basin covers 88 square kilometres. The valley it carves is part of a north–south route between major valleys. The steep descent creates fast-flowing water and dramatic scenery. Visitors to the Northern Taurach find a rugged alpine landscape shaped by the river. The Taurachtal offers walking paths along its banks and through the surrounding hills.
