Strandbad Angelibad

The Angelibad is a municipal summer pool beside the Alte Donau in Vienna’s 21st district. It sits on the right bank of the old river arm, below the Floridsdorf water park. The site first opened in 1888 as Birner’s Vier-Kreuzer-Bad, run by the owner of the still-standing Strandgasthaus Birner. The city took it over in 1920, rebuilt it and renamed it Städtisches Strandbad Mühlschüttel. In 1929 it became Angelibad after local councillor Hans Angeli. After war damage and a 1948 fire, it reopened in 1949 at today’s spot. In 1998 new play equipment was chosen by children to make the pool more child-friendly. The beach stretches for about 500 metres along the water. There is a small children’s pool, tennis and minigolf, a football pitch, beach volleyball, basketball, a mud play area, a pirate ship and a swimming jetty. A solar array of 320 square metres heats the children’s pool and showers. The water is regularly tested to strict EU standards.
