Stuchd an Lochain

Stuchd an Lochain stands in the Breadalbane region of the southern Scottish Highlands. It is a Munro, a Scottish mountain over 900 metres high. The peak rises above Glen Lyon near Loch an Daimh, a small loch at the western end of the glen. A large corrie below the summit holds Lochan na Cat, a tiny lake shaped like a footprint. The mountain’s Gaelic name means ‘peak of the little lake’, describing the view from the top. The best route starts at Loch an Daimh and follows a ridge to Sron Chona Choirein. From there the path turns north briefly before heading northwest to the summit. Walkers who want a longer day can continue west for a circular route around the loch. This loop includes Sròn a’ Choire Chnapanich, a Corbett, and Meall Buidhe, another Munro. At the top walkers find wide views across Glen Lyon and the surrounding glens. The corrie below holds Lochan na Cat, its water dark and still. On clear days Ben Lawers and Schiehallion appear in the distance. The ridge walk gives a sense of height and space above the glen. The return along the loch offers changing light on the water and the hills.
