Meall Ghaordaidh

Meall Ghaordaidh is a Munro in the Southern Highlands of Scotland. It stands about ten kilometres north-west of Killin in Perth and Kinross. The mountain is also known as Meall Ghaordie on some records. Two glens offer routes up its slopes: Glen Lochay to the north-west and Glen Lyon to the south-east. Duncroisk lies near the Glen Lochay starting point, while Stronuich marks the Glen Lyon trailhead. The ascent from Glen Lochay follows an eroded path through peat bogs before reaching the summit. Walkers can also choose one of two spurs from Glen Lyon: Creag an Tulabhain or Creag Laoghain. Both routes lead to the same high point, where a large circular rock windbreak shelters a trig point. The windbreak helps shield the summit from harsh weather common at this height. At the top, the views stretch across the Southern Highlands and beyond. On clear days Ben Lawers and other Munros are visible to the north. The contrast between the wide glens and the narrow ridges adds to the mountain’s appeal. The summit itself is a quiet place, often free of the crowds found on busier peaks. The long approach walks make the final climb feel more rewarding.
