Newport Stadium

Newport Stadium stands in Liswerry, a district of Newport in South Wales. It is a multi-use venue hosting football, rugby and athletics. The stadium belongs to the Newport International Sports Village, a large sports complex run by the city council. Newport City Football Club, Newport RFC and Newport Harriers Athletic Club use the ground for their home matches. Newport County also trains its youth and senior squads there, though their first team now plays elsewhere. The stadium meets high standards for both football and athletics. It once held Conference National football matches and can stage international track and field events. The lighting reaches 500 Lux, suitable for televised games. Newport RFC moved all their home fixtures here in 2021, keeping just two matches a season at their former ground. The record attendance without temporary stands was 4,300 for a Newport County match against Manchester United in 2003. Visitors find two covered stands along the pitch sides. The west stand seats 1,100 while the east stand is a standing terrace for 1,600, known as The Shed. An uncovered terrace sits at the north end. The ground is reached from Spytty Road and has a large car park for spectators. Temporary stands have been added for cup ties, raising the capacity to 5,058 at its peak.
