The Warehouse Theatre

The Warehouse Theatre stands in Hope Street, Weymouth, a former coal store built in the 1930s for the Devenish Brewery. After the brewery closed in 1990 the building stood empty until the Weymouth Drama Club took it over in 1993. It now houses rehearsal spaces, a set-building workshop, a large costume store and a props room. Lighting and sound equipment is installed, and a small kitchen serves the club. A meeting room is also available for hire by local groups. The club owns and runs the building, using it mainly for rehearsing its own productions. Although an amateur organisation, professional advice and skills are welcomed. Each month several social events take place on the premises. Fundraising keeps the building maintained and supports new productions. Friends of the Club recently helped buy new seating for performances. Visitors find a working theatre where main productions are staged alongside rehearsals. Past shows have included Pride and Prejudice, Billy Liar and An Inspector Calls. The costume store is open to the public for hire. The building’s industrial past is still visible inside, while modern facilities support current performances.
