Weymouth Quay railway station

Weymouth Quay railway station stands at the end of the Weymouth Harbour Tramway, beside the ferry terminal in the Dorset port of Weymouth. The single-storey brick building once formed the regular starting point for boat trains running non-stop to London Waterloo. These trains ran along streets in the town centre before reaching the quay. After regular boat services ended in 1987 the station still saw special excursions, the last in 1999. The track and station remained part of the rail network even though they were no longer in daily use. The station’s buildings now serve as offices for Condor Ferries, which once ran sailings to the Channel Islands. Condor left Weymouth in 2015 when a new ferry entered service elsewhere. The line was formally closed in 2017 after years of temporary disuse notices. Campaigners had hoped to reopen the route to ease traffic and boost tourism, but the track was lifted in 2020 and 2021. Visitors find the former station building beside the lifeboat station on the harbour front. Its simple brick façade faces the water where ferries once docked. The empty trackbed now forms a flat path along the quay, ending where the rails were removed. The area remains a quiet spot with views across the inner harbour to the town’s seafront buildings.
