Ruislip Gardens tube station

Ruislip Gardens is a London Underground station on the Central line’s West Ruislip branch. It lies in the London Borough of Hillingdon, between West Ruislip and South Ruislip stations. The tracks were laid by the Great Western and Great Central Joint Railway and opened in 1906 without a station. The station itself opened in 1934. Central line services began in 1948 after wartime delays shortened the planned extension to West Ruislip. The station was once served by main line trains until 1958, when only the Central line remained. A visible stairwell entrance once marked the London-bound side of the Chiltern tracks. Today the station handles up to twelve trains per hour at peak times. Nine trains per hour run to West Ruislip and nine to Epping during off-peak hours. London Buses route E7 and school route 696 connect here. Visitors find a quiet station set in a residential area of Ruislip. The platforms show signs of the station’s past, including remains of the old stairwell. The temporary booking hall from 1955 can be seen in archive photographs. The surrounding neighbourhood offers local shops and green spaces. The Central line depot lies just south of the running lines.
